Principal component analysis for facial animation
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents a technique for animating a threedimensional face model through the application of Principal Component Analysis (PCA). Using PCA has several advantages over traditional approaches to facial animation because it reduces the number of parameters needed to describe a face and confines the facial motion to a valid space to prevent unnatural contortions. First real data is optically captured in real time from a human subject using infrared cameras and reflective trackers. This data is analyzed to find a mean face and a set of eigenvectors and eigenvalues that are used to perturb the mean face within the range described by the captured data. The result is a set of vectors that can be linearly combined and interpolated to represent different facial expressions and animations. We also show that it is possible to map the eigenvectors of one face onto another face or to change the eigenvectors to describe new motion.

Automatic Dynamic Expression Synthesis For Speech Animation
Although a large amount of research has been done in speech animation, both 2D and 3D, one shortcoming of current speech animation methods is that they cannot generate dynamic expressions automatically. In this paper, an automatic technique for synthesizing novel dynamic expression for 3D speech animation is presented. After a Phoneme-Independent Expression Eigen-Space (PIEES) is extracted from...
متن کاملReal-time tracking and imitation of facial expression
We present a system for tracking facial expression and head pose with one camera and no special markers, and generating a face animation to imitate these expressions simultaneously. The tracking is based on Gabor wavelet coefficients (jets) of the facial feature points, a saccadic searching strategy, and a model-based adjustment. Using Principal Components Analysis (PCA), we established an expr...
متن کامل3D human face reconstruction using principal components spaces
In this work we propose a new method of 3D face computational photography based on a facial expressions training dataset composed of both facial range images (3D geometry) and facial texture (2D photo). The method allows to obtain a 3D representation of facial geometry given only a 2D photo and a set of facial landmarks, which undergoes a series of transformations through the estimated texture ...
متن کاملCompression of MPEG-4 facial animation parameters for transmission of talking heads
The emerging MPEG-4 standard supports the transmission and composition of facial animation with natural video. The new standard will include a facial animation parameter (FAP) set that is defined based on the study of minimal facial actions and is closely related to muscle actions. The FAP set enables model-based representation of natural or synthetic talking-head sequences and allows intelligi...
متن کاملSpeech-driven facial animation using a hierarchical model - Vision, Image and Signal Processing, IEE Proceedings-
A system capable of producing near video-realistic animation of a speaker given only speech inputs is presented. The audio input is a continuous speech signal, requires no phonetic labelling and is speaker-independent. The system requires only a short video training corpus of a subject speaking a list of viseme-targeted words in order to achieve convincing realistic facial synthesis. The system...
متن کاملRobust Parameterized Component Analysis Theory and Applications to 2D Facial Modeling
Principal Component Analysis (PCA) has been successfully applied to construct linear models of shape, graylevel, and motion. In particular, PCA has been widely used to model the variation in the appearance of people’s faces. We extend previous work on facial modeling for tracking faces in video sequences as they undergo significant changes due to facial expressions. Here we develop person-speci...
